#20 Woohoo. The End.

I would do this again, it's important to know what's up. I was really impressed with the common craft tutorials. Love Pandora and Google Earth. Should have used the same passwords, that would have been easier. I marvel at how the world is changing. Alot of this was amazing.

Until next time,

Willow

#19 Gaming

Found a new game I like, unfortunately. Really don't need any more nonproductive time wasters. I looked at the kids site, figured I could play a game for an 8th grade girl easily, way more complicated than I thought. Humble pie.

#18 Google Earth

I am a map fanatic, so I was very excited that this was coming up. I am surprised at how fuzzy things are but I guess that's how they get you to pay. Google maps satellite view is much clearer for most of the images I saw, but of course you can't do all the spiffy things. It was interesting seeing the topography of my own area from street level. Fun!!!

#17 Avatar Second Life

My virtual self - younger, carefree. Real self - responsible, older, busy. It was fun creating the avatar, I see the appeal, recreating yourself.

I am so enjoying this life, I have no interest in Second Life. It's all so amazing to me and I'm glad to know what it is.

I watched a YouTube of Second Life and libraries, it was really creative.

#16 Online Apps

Can see the possibilities, but this would take alot of work. I played with google docs and Zoho and it's pretty complicated. Did create a pretty cool invite with pic, but couldn't figure out how to save it here. Well, half is better than nothing.

#15 Search Engine

I put in Olympic World Record 100 M. Running came up on all the sites but Mamma. It featured swimming first. I forgot that was a swimming race as well.

The format is interesting on the different sites, and it's good to know more search engines. The article "How do search engines work" was informative. I will use Google first but try others.

#14 Podcasting

Aside from knowing that we were recording veterans for podcast, this is my first experience with this media.

I listened to "How to make maps" from the Sheridan Library at Johns Hopkins. I also listened to NPR's Books, and KCRW bookworm. For fun I listened and watched the Onion News.

There is so much information, history, research, etc. available through podcasts, it can be very useful for Sno-Isle, and our patrons.

Considering the many different cultures our patrons come from, I imagine there is an infinite number of topics they may be interested in.

#13 Online Image Generators

My

This was a more difficult than the others. For some reason customsigngenerator.com and several other sites I tried were not available (could have been the time of night). Finally found one that worked. Might be fun to play with in the future. I'm just happy I was able to do this by myself!!

#12 Overdrive

I had no idea there were so many titles available. I didn't find any of my authors when I searched, however when I looked at staff suggestions I found authors I really like.

I downloaded Spanish word booster, what a find! There are many language programs available. I also found improv comedy to watch and Imax as well.

I have told patrons about the classic books available, but will talk the rest up now. Looking forward to browing the foreign films and music.

This is a wonderful resource.

#11 Del.icio.us

This took a little work to figure out. Might be fun to play with, can see the advantages of accessing bookmarks anywhere. Also brought up a great mystery book website - stopyourkillingme.com. Looking forward to diving into that one. Didn't come up with anything interesting on google (on the first page) with the same search 'mystery'. Came up with several on delicious.

#10 Wiki

The cognitive surplus discussion from Shirkey was thought provoking, as were the comments.

I've learned alot from this session, didn't know what a wiki was even though I've been to wikipedia many times. I enjoyed the book review. I saw quite a few business oriented wikis.

Possible applications: For each library, FAQ's for staff and public. Community events, places to go and see.

#9 Streaming Video

Who doesn't love YouTube. I don't get on there much, I waste too much time.

Hulu has alot of free movies so I might go there in the future.

Fancast looks like a glorified tv guide. We're not big tv watchers so don't think I'd use it.

Cute Treadmill Kitten

#8 Facebook

I tried Facebook as I've seen quite a bit of MySpace.

Not something I'd use, but I can see why they are popular, good way to keep in touch and share with a large number of friends. The comments are interesting to read.

Nice resource if I ever want to search for college or high school chums.

Have no idea which Obama I added as a friend, oh well.

#7 Flickr

OUR RELAXED TRIGGER

I may ending up using this. I usually just email photos. Nice to know what flickr is though.

The photo was easy to load, took a few tries to get the tag done properly. I learned not to use the back button.

#6 Pandora

Can't believe this is free and I'm just learning about this!

Also can't wait for my teens to get home and share this with them.

This is so cool. Had to blog while still listening. Will use this alot!!!

#5 RSS

Setup bloglines, added Accidental Hedonist, Snopes, Rotten Tomatoes, NYT Books, The Shifted Librarian, & TechCrunch.

Found a new author, and movie, and learned interesting stuff.

I like how I don't have to do anything to delete them, once I open that feed, unless I save it, it's gone. The feeds to my library email account had to be deleted, I finally deleted the feeds altogether. Too time intensive.

The first 3 are purely for fun, the last are both fun and can help in the library.

Google talk

Well, I've used this alot, it's the way my hubby and I talk while he's at work. It was nice to set it up and know how, as he's always done it for us.

Took a look at Meebo, pretty amazing, didn't sign up, don't have a use for it yet.

Lots to learn

This is fun.

I find I'm spending more time finding original passwords and signins than actually creating though that will change.

On to the next.
